Enjoy a tranquil 45-minute Wet Tropics&nbsp;calm water cruise on the Barron River in Kuranda aboard the MV Kuranda. The commentary will highlight various aspects of the world&#39;s most ancient tropical rainforest in Australia, river life, and the history of Kuranda. The river is home to a host of wildlife including freshwater crocodiles, turtles, snakes, fish, and birds. Occasionally, a wild cassowary may be spotted on the edge of the rainforest by the riverbank!&nbsp;

Established in 1982, a cruise on the Kuranda Riverboat will leave you relaxed and refreshed. The calm waters of the beautiful upland Barron River in Kuranda provide awesome photo&nbsp;opportunities whilst your skipper provides insight into the history of Kuranda, the ancient tropical rainforest and the animals, reptiles and birds that reside in this unique area of Tropical North Queensland. The Wet Tropics extend along the northeast coast of Queensland for about 450 kilometres between Cooktown in the north and Townsville in the south. It consists of 894,420 hectares of tropical rainforest, open eucalypt forest, swamp and mangrove forest. In some places, it is only a few hundred meters wide and in other places up to 50 to 60 kilometres wide. The river is home to a host of wildlife including freshwater crocodiles (Crocodylus johnsoni or Crocodylus johnstoni), turtles, snakes, water dragons and fish, together with over 100 species of tropical birds. Cassowaries are sometimes seen too on the far side of the river.

You have to option to upgrade the standard riverboat ticket&nbsp;with entry to the Kuranda Koala Gardens, where you can experience Australia&rsquo;s most popular wildlife &mdash; hand feed kangaroos or wallabies, take&nbsp;a photo holding a koala, see wombats, quokkas, lizards, snakes, and freshwater crocodiles, and walk through the nocturnal exhibit where bilbies are housed. It also includes entry&nbsp;to Birdworld Kuranda, where you can see Australia&rsquo;s largest collection of free-flying birds. There are over 350 birds living at Birdworld and hand-feeding and photo opportunities are available!&nbsp;You can spend as much time as you like at the Koala Gardens and Birdworld.

These animals are wild creatures living in their natural habitat and can be seen on the BARRON RIVER in Kuranda only. Tourists must park the car and walk down the stairs to the river, where there are red flags flying at the jetty.

Meeting Location: Getting to Kuranda is easy by bus with Transnorth Bus Company, hire car, Skyrail Rainforest Cableway or the Kuranda Scenic Railway. The&nbsp;&nbsp;45 minutes Wet Tropics rainforest cruises depart from our riverside jetty below the Kuranda Railway Station, over the railway footbridge and down the stairs. The cruise is on the Barron River in Kuranda only. You cannot drive down to the river to access the cruises.&nbsp;Park your car and walk across the Kuranda Railway Station footbridge and go down the stairs to the river where you will see red flags flying at the&nbsp;jetty.
