Frequently Asked Questions
The Great Barrier Reef is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many of our visitors, who have a wonderful experience no matter the weather.
Cairns has a tropical climate and experiences hot, humid summers and cooler, dry winters. Often when the weather is cloudy or rainy in Cairns it can be the complete opposite on the outer Great Barrier Reef.
The water is between 5 and 12m in depth off the pontoon, depending on the tide. The crew supply life jackets free of charge for extra buoyancy and resting stations are dotted throughout the snorkelling area.
Cairns is located in Tropical North Queensland so the water temperature is very pleasant all year round. Approximate average water temperatures throughout the year are:
- December-February 29C or 83F
- March-May 25C or 76F
- June-August 22C or 72F
- September-November 25C or 76F
Sea conditions vary every day. The pontoon and catamaran are very stable and safe. If the rare occasion occurs and it is deemed that it isn't safe to operate due to sea conditions, passengers will be offered travel on an alternate day or will receive a refund.
Passengers who are prone to motion sickness are advised to take necessary precautions such as motion sickness medication prior to travel.
There is no minimum age. We have had infants just a few weeks old travel to the Great Barrier Reef with us. We have a specially built ocean enclosed pool for smaller children so they too can enjoy a paddle in the sea. There are minimum age requirements for optional activities such as SCUBA diving.
Yes, it's important for us to have an accurate record of every single person travelling with us. Whilst children 3 years and under travel free, you need to advise us there is an infant travelling with you when you make your booking.

What an amazing experience! The crew on board were so friendly and helpful. We are avid swimmers but never snorkelled before so they taught us how to use the masks properly so we didnt get water stuck in them

To Manager Thank you for arranging the booking for 3 of us. The journey this morning was very choppy, many people felt sea-sick. It wasn’t a pleasant journey the captain did mention that. For your information, the last booking for V. Cracknell is my father in law, just turns 90th not long ago. We comes from Adelaide, the trip was a birthday gift for him. This last minute booking was something extra special for him to see the reef for the first time in his life. He was looking forward for glass bottom boat tour, unfortunately he can’t snorkel due to his previous ears operation and age. At this morning checked in the girl told us that the glass bottom boat tour has been canceled due to maintenance, no apologies. Of course, this is quite a disappointing news for him and us. Did you know the glass bottom boat maintenance issue? Should you let your customers know prior to booking. What can you do next? I look forward hearing from you soon. Thank you reading this email and understanding. Kind regards Swee

We enjoyed our cruise a lot, the crew do a great job of hosting and the pontoon facility is also a good spot with a lot of different activities if you want a bit more than snorkelling. A very good lunch also provided, a well rounded tour.

Was really nice in the middle of the barrier reef. Lots to do. Lunch buffet was also really good. If the crew advices you to take a pill for motion sickness, take one cause you'll definitely need it even though you think you won't!
