Frequently Asked Questions
What is the luggage allowance?
What is the luggage allowance?
You will be on the move a lot, so our advice is to pack as lightly as possible.
We recommend using a backpack for your convenience, or a medium-sized suitcase if you prefer. Heavy luggage is not recommended for the health of your tour leader, who will take the lead in loading luggage into the storage trailer.
Due to space in the storage trailer, we will not be able to accommodate more than one piece of main luggage per person. A good size day-pack (20-35L) is also essential to carry your personal gear for the day, as access to luggage between destinations will be limited. This daypack will be used to carry your personal gear for the day, your lunch, and a water bottle.
You will need a smaller bag for the Whitsunday Islands overnight excursion, as you will leave your big bags on the mainland due to space constraints.

What are the meals like?
What are the meals like?
This tour includes 9 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 3 dinners
Eating is a big part of travelling with G Adventures; you'll experience the vast array of wonderful food that is available out in our wonderful world. Generally, meals are not included on days when there is a choice of eating options to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what, and with whom you'll eat.
This also gives you more budgeting flexibility, though generally, food is cheap. Tour groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though. Your tour leader will be able to suggest different restaurants during your trip.
Please note that most included breakfasts will consist of cereal, milk, bread and spreads, juice, tea, and instant coffee. Having a simple breakfast with your group most days allows you the flexibility to get on the road early and get from point A to B all that much faster.
What will the accommodation be like?
What will the accommodation be like?
All nights are multi-share on this trip. This may involve 4-6 group members sharing a room, and even (on rare occasions) dormitory-style rooms for the whole group. It is also worth noting that all multi-share accommodation is generally split by gender in Australia.
The majority of accommodation on this trip will have shared bathroom facilities. Your leader has specifically chosen unique accommodations to give local flavour to your trip. In multi-share hostels, rooming requests of any kind cannot be taken.
What are the joining instructions for this tour?
What are the joining instructions for this tour?
You can get to your joining hostel (Wake Up! Sydney) from Sydney International Airport in any of the following ways:
By Taxi: Approximately $45-$60
By Sydney Airport Shuttle services: Expect to pay between AU$25-$40. The journey will take approximately 40 – 60 minutes. There are a number of shuttle services available at the airport, and the airport information desk can assist you with booking this.
By Train: $18-$20 per person. The train station is under the airport terminal and takes approximately 20-25 minutes to get into the city. Hop off the train at Central Station. The joining hostel is located across the road from Central Station, on the Pitt Street side of George Street.
Please note that day 1 is an arrival day and no activities have been planned on this day.
Upon arrival to your Joining Hostel: Check in in the afternoon and look for a note or bulletin board in the reception with a note from your tour leader. This note will give the details of your Welcome Meeting on day 1 (usually between 5pm and 7pm), where you will get a chance to meet your tour leader and other travellers, as well as learn more about how the tour will run. If you don’t see a note, please ask reception for details!
If you are arriving later and will miss the Welcome Meeting, your tour leader will leave a note at reception for you with any information you may need, including morning instructions for the next day.
What are the visa and entry requirements?
What are the visa and entry requirements?
Australia requires all international travellers to present a valid passport (with a minimum 6 months validity) to enter the country.
It is your own responsibility to have the correct travel documentation. Visa requirements for your trip will vary depending on where you are from and where you are going. Please contact your local embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date visa requirements, or see your travel agent.
How much spending money should I bring?
How much spending money should I bring?
Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping and tipping.
Credit cards can be used almost anywhere in Australia to purchase both small and large items. However, we do not recommend relying on your cards alone. A combination of Australian Dollar bills (5's, 10's, and 20's), traveller's cheques, and cards is best.
We recommend changing your local currency into AUD either prior to travel or upon arrival at the airport. However, currency exchange services are easy to find in Australia in the gateway cities and most banks do accommodate exchange requests.
It is not customary in Australia to tip service providers, but if you do experience outstanding service it is courteous to do so. Such service would usually only be in places such as quality restaurants, and it would be very rare to tip more than 10%.
Unless specifically asked to do so at the time by your tour leader, do not tip your local guides. At the end of each trip, if you felt your G Adventures tour leader did an outstanding job, you may consider giving them a small tip, but it certainly isn't expected.
