This trip starts and finishes at the River Heads ferry terminal in Hervey Bay. Hervey Bay is approximately 3 hours by car north of Brisbane, 2.5 hours north of Sunshine Coast and 1.5 hours north of Rainbow Beach.

Tours depart to K’gari at 9 am, 1 pm, or 3.30 pm. If you require a courtesy transfer from one of the select locations in Hervey Bay, please enter your desired pick-up location at the time of booking. 

If you do not require a pick-up, please check in at our Mainland Reception in River Heads well in advance of your chosen ferry departure time. On Google Maps, the Mainland Reception will appear as 54 Ariadne St. After arriving at this location, a courtesy coach will provide transport to the ferry departure point, and you will arrive directly at Kingfisher Bay Resort and board our custom 4WD coach.

On the final day, you must depart the resort and catch the final ferry back to the mainland no later than 5 pm. Your preferred ferry arrival and departure times must be selected at the time of booking. 

Solo travellers are more than welcome on this tour, with plenty of travellers previously joining this trip by themselves. If you are travelling solo, you will be staying in a single room with one queen bed. 

This tour is suitable for everyone from solo travellers to families. If you’re looking for a way to experience K’gari’s iconic destinations as well as its lesser-known hidden gems, this is the experience for you! 

Children over the age of one are welcome on all of our tours. If your child is under the age of eight, you will need to provide them with a car seat. 

As this tour is off-road on sand tracks and conditions can be rough at times, we advise all pregnant travellers and people with medical conditions to seek medical advice before booking this tour.

Foreign language translation services are available for this tour via the K’gari Explorer Tours Foreign Language Guide App, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store before arrival. This app provides expert commentary and fun facts about K’gari in audio and script formats for people who speak English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Chinese.

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory on this trip.

Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping, and tipping. 

Most meals are included in this tour (excluding dinner), and you will also have full access to resort facilities throughout your stay on K’gari. 

You’ll need to pack sufficient clothing for four days on K'gari. We also recommend packing the following essential items for your trip:

For the 2-day 4WD tour, we recommend packing your essentials in an overnight bag that can be easily transported between resorts. Any excess luggage you have can be stored at Kingfisher Bay Resort while you head off on your 2-day adventure. 

Before and after your 2-day 4WD tour, you’ll be staying at Kingfisher Bay Resort in a standard resort hotel room. Room upgrades are available by contacting our Reservations Team.

Kingfisher Bay Resort is a four-star integrated eco accommodation, immersed within the tree-covered dunes along the western bay of K’gari. The resort caters to families with a suite of interconnecting hotel rooms, spacious multi-bedroom villas, four lagoon-style swimming pools that are perfect for little ones to splash and play, kids' menus at all restaurants, as well as direct access to the calm, western beach.

During your 2-day 4WD tour, you’ll receive one night of accommodation in a standard resort hotel room at K'gari Beach Resort. These rooms come with ceiling fans to increase airflow, if you would like an upgrade to an air-conditioned room, please contact our Reservations Team at 1800 372 737 (additional costs apply).

The resort offers triple, double/twin, and single hotel rooms along the spectacular 75 Mile Beach. Each resort room has been recently renovated and includes tea and coffee-making facilities, a balcony or a patio. The resort offers many facilities for guest use, but the best place to unwind at the end of your tour is at McKenzie’s on 75 Bar & Restaurant.

If you're travelling with friends or family, for a little extra, you can upgrade to a two-bedroom apartment. These spacious apartments have a double bedroom, twin bedroom, full kitchen and bathroom, lounge room with TV and a private balcony.
