What to expect from Cairns in February

Cairns beach shorefront

Cairns in February is all about those long sunny days, balmy nights and the chilled-out tropical atmosphere. With average temperatures hovering around 24°c to 32°c, it can definitely be considered hot and humid most of the time, but the frequent evening showers, crystal-clear waters and cool rainforest retreats make Cairns a haven for people who love the tropical feel but don’t want to get burned to a crisp.

Get Cool, Rapidly!

If you’re visiting Cairns in February, definitely pack your swimsuit because the region’s calm, turquoise waters are waiting to be explored! Not only is the water sublimely warm, but the wet season provides high water levels, creating thrilling and challenging rapids that are perfect for an adrenaline-pumping river rafting experience.

Cairns boasts some of the best river rafting spots in Australia, with the Tully and Barron Rivers offering a range of experiences from easygoing to extreme. You can enjoy the surrounds of these lush rainforest gorges tackling the intense rapids and enjoy the atmosphere as you raft down these wild rivers. Experienced guides ensure your safety and fun, so it’s suitable for both beginners and experienced rafters.

For a more relaxed water experience, splash about in the lagoon at Cairns Esplanade – a safe, picturesque area that’s great for kids and adults alike – or take a refreshing dip under the cascading waters of Josephine Falls, Crystal Cascades, or any of the other hidden gems near Cairns. Beyond the surf and reef, Feb weather is perfect for delving into the lush rainforests surrounding the city, or seeing the lush surrounds from a completely different view with local skydiving, bungee jumping or hot air ballooning available.
