Cairns in September is such a good time for backpackers and other visitors to explore this natural beauty in the heart of tropical North Queensland. As winter transitions into spring, you can expect delightful dry weather with low humidity and temperatures ranging from 19°c to 29°c – not too hot and not too cold.

These warm-yet-comfortable temps are perfect for outdoor activities, marine exploration and discovering the other amazing creatures of Cairns.

 With September in Cairns giving you nothing but clear skies and extremely pleasant days, it’s an excellent time to do some bird watching. The region's diverse habitats – including wetlands and rainforests – attract so many different bird species, which is an absolute paradise for bird enthusiasts.

The Cattana Wetlands are totally worth visiting, as is the Daintree Rainforest. In fact, you'll encounter colourful parrots, majestic birds of prey and unique endemic species in all forested areas. Cairns is famous amongst bird watchers for its avian diversity and even newbies will be amazed at the beauty of some of the local birds.

This yearly event gives you an insight into the creative spirit of the locals and is such an exciting thing to do on your September adventure in Cairns.
