Melbourne in September

Melbourne in December is a time of celebration and warm, sunny days, with temperatures ranging from 12°c to 25°c. As the city gets into the festive spirit, it’s also the perfect month to splash about. Melbourne’s beautiful coastline and rivers offer some of the best opportunities for sailing, swimming and cruising, giving you a truly unique adventure through the city and its surrounds.

Exploring Melbourne by Water

The warm weather during December in Melbourne gives you absolutely perfect conditions for cruise and sailing tours. The city has many options to choose from, whether you already know how to sail or are a complete beginner. If you’re interested in a hands-on experience, you could try something like the Yarra River Waterbikes tour, which lets you take the reins yourself.

The Melbourne City Highlights River Cruise is extremely popular and lets you see the iconic Melbourne riverbank from a different angle. This and similar tours include information on the city’s history and landmarks as you pass by the River Gardens, Docklands and the Port. As you sail further out, the contrast between the busy city and the serene water is breathtaking.

If you’re an evening person, a Golden Hour cruise is a must-do during Melbourne’s long summer evenings. Watching the sunset over the cityscape while on a boat is an amazing experience. Many of the city’s cruise tours offer dinner or drinks onboard, making it a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring.

If you’re looking for something that gets the blood pumping, you could try a kayak or SUP tour. These tours are a lot of fun and help you to cool down as you take in the views of the stunning Melbourne shorelines.

Celebrate the Silly Season

With the December in Melbourne festive atmosphere in full swing, a cruise or sailing tour in December is a fantastic way to celebrate the holiday season. This month offers so much more though. There’s multiple Christmas and NYE events including Christmas markets, Carols by Candlelight and New Year’s Eve events, to name a few. Our Things To Do in Melbourne page has even more.
