What to expect from Darwin in June

You’ll love the perfect weather conditions you’ll get by visiting Darwin in June. With the temperature ranging from 20°c to 31°c and minimal rainfall, it’s an ideal time for visiting some of the city’s natural areas, and Litchfield National Park is definitely a must-visit destination.

Ideal Weather for Exploring

June in Darwin is well within the dry season, meaning clear skies and comfortable temperatures that are perfect for exploring the stunning natural beauty of Litchfield National Park. With lovely, crisp mornings, lower humidity levels and less chance of rain to interrupt your plans, hiking and exploring are so much more enjoyable than other times of the year.

Litchfield’s stunning waterfalls and refreshing swimming holes are the major drawcard out of the area’s many spectacular natural features. For example, Florence Falls is a double waterfall in a lush, monsoon forest and it’s a truly gorgeous swimming spot that’s accessible via a short walk.

Nearby, there’s a series of cascading rock pools called the Buley Rockhole that’s perfect for a relaxing dip. Wangi Falls is one of the park's most popular attractions, with its large plunge pool that’s a lot of fun for swimming. It’s a great spot for a picnic too, with its picturesque views of the surrounding forest.

The park features some unique geological formations such as nature’s skyscrapers, the magnetic termite mounds, as well as the Lost City, which is a huge formation of natural sandstone pillars that resemble the ruins of an ancient city. If you’re into wildlife spotting, you’ll see wallabies, sugar gliders, reptiles, amphibians and multiple bird species within this truly diverse ecosystem.

A Guided Adventure

While you can do a self-driven tour, Litchfield National Park is much easier to explore on a guided tour, as you’ll not only be taken to the best spots, but also get to hear commentary on the park's history, flora and fauna. There are so many spectacular views and photo opportunities throughout the park, so don’t forget your camera! Our Things To Do in Darwin page has more great activities.
