Sydney in April means golden autumn hues and a delightfully-mild temperature ranging from 15°c to 24°c. It’s the absolute best time to explore the nearby historic towns of Katoomba and Leura in the Blue Mountains, as the cooler weather makes these picturesque destinations feel even more charming.

Historic Towns Exploration

Stunning Katoomba – which is known as the gateway to the Blue Mountains – is full of history and natural beauty. It’s an amazing spot to visit during April in Sydney, as the town’s heritage buildings and old-world charm are perfectly complemented by the stunning autumn colours and crisp air.

One of the main drawcards in Katoomba is the iconic Three Sisters rock formation, which is best viewed from Echo Point. The cool weather makes the surrounding walking trails, like the Prince Henry Cliff Walk, a comfortable and delightful experience and there are multiple tours that make the hike safe.

The town itself gives you a small glimpse into Australia’s past with its nicely-preserved Art Deco buildings and quaint streets lined with antique shops, cafes and galleries. A visit to the grand old Carrington Hotel (which dates back to 1883) for some afternoon tea is an absolute must if you want to feel like you’re stepping back in time.

There’s the cute little village of Leura, just a quick drive from Katoomba. Leura is famous for its historic homes, beautiful gardens and boutique shopping, so it’s an enchanting haven if you appreciate the finer things in life. As the gardens burst into a mass of autumn colours, a stroll down the tree-lined Leura Mall is a beautiful way to spend the afternoon.

The heritage architecture and natural beauty of the Blue Mountains make it a perfect destination for a leisurely day of historic exploration, plus, you can also take advantage of modernisation with a fun visit to the Cableway, Skyway and Railway on a Scenic World tour!

Easter Excitement

Sydney in April means it’s time for the Sydney Royal Easter Show – a much-loved family event that’s definitely worth a visit. You can also laugh ‘til your belly aches at the Sydney Comedy Festival later in the month, or continue with the historical interests by attending an Anzac Day event. Our Things to Do in Sydney page has so much more.

Travelling during another month? Check out what to expect from Sydney in January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.
