Enter the world of Mitai, and learn about the history of this area which once flourished in villages.&nbsp;Mitai Māori Village sits over four acres of whenua (land) called Rotohokahoka, gifted by the Ngati Whakaue people to develop.

The vision and foresight for this land was to redevelop the old pā (village) site, showcase Māori culture through Toi Whakaari (performing arts) and to share the lifestyle of Māori.

Your experience begins with a welcoming ceremony and cultural performance. Watch the story of the migration of Tamatekapua of the Te Arawa canoe to Aotearoa and the Māori Pacifica connection told in performing arts!&nbsp;There will also be a question and answer session for those curious to learn more.&nbsp;

Enjoy a buffet featuring the delicious and tempting traditional hāngī food of the Great Ocean of Kiwa!&nbsp;The hāngī is cooked in an earth oven, a hole 1-2m into the ground; the baskets of kai (food) are placed on hot stones at the bottom of a hāngī pit. The kai is then covered to trap the heat, and the steam and heat from heated hāngī stones infuse the kai with delicious earthy flavours while it cooks for 3-4 hours. The food includes&nbsp;meat, chicken, kumara and much more.

You&#39;ll also take a walk through nature to see an&nbsp;ancient fortified village, learning about the old ways of living and the survival of the Māori people.&nbsp;See the natural resource of spring Te Puna Tapu o Tuhoe, and watch the forest light up as the glow worms appear in the night.&nbsp;
